Superintendent

Superintendent

The Superintendent oversees all field operations on a project to ensure that self-performed and subcontracted work is in compliance with contract documents and the project schedule. Superintendents also implement and enforce safety and quality control policies among employees and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the timely and cost-effective installation of contracted and subcontracted work.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules.

  • Have working knowledge of owner contract, subcontracts and purchase orders.

  • Identify and monitor the procurement and installation of critical path activities.

  • Identify long lead items and monitor the procurement of material and equipment.

  • Update project schedules monthly in accordance with contract documents.

  • Perform material and equipment take-offs for self-performed work.

  • Direct and assist in self-performed work.

  • Monitor unit costs for self-performed and subcontracted work.

  • Have good working knowledge of subcontractors’ scope.

  • Complete daily field reports and record employee’s time.

  • Implement safety program. Conduct regular safety inspections to assure all working conditions and work habits are in compliance with company, contract and government standards. Take remedial action when required.

  • Implement the company’s safety policies and procedures and QC policies and programs.

  • Assist in resolution of scope conflicts.

  • Participate in the project management functions.

  • Monitor and assist in the completion of punch lists and project closeout.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent on public or commercial projects.

  • In depth knowledge of the construction process including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, manpower, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead field operations.

  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, laws and regulations.

  • Field experience is preferred.
